Questions?

Here are answers to some of our most frequently asked questions. If you have any additional questions please feel free to contact us by email or by calling us at 416 RED BINS. We are here to help!

  • Can I leave the bin on the street?

Certain municipalities allow bins to be placed on the street while others do not. In Toronto you need to acquire a road occupancy permit. If this is the case, here is the form you require. You may also want to download this NO PARKING image and print it out to advise your neighbours not to park in that spot.

  • What is the difference between full service and self service?

Our full service takes care of all the loading and clean-up involved in junk removal. If you don’t have a good location for a disposal bin, or don’t have the time to load a disposal bin yourself, then this is your best option. With our self service option, we’ll deliver a bin that you fill yourself. We’ll take it away after you’re done with it. This is a good option if you require more time to load the disposal bin. When these two options aren’t practical, we also offer what we refer to as a running load. The driver will wait on site while you load the disposal bin.

  • What size bin should I get?

Home renovations consist mostly of bulky, light material such as drywall, wood, etc. For this we typically recommend a bin of at least 14 yards. If you are looking for clean fill for landscaping and need to remove topsoil, dirt, concrete, etc. then we suggest either the 4 yard or 14 yard bin. You can find a cubic yard calculator here

  • Junk we can and cannot take?

  • What is considered clean fill?

Clean fill is considered to be Concrete, Interlock, Brick and block, Dirt, Grass, Asphalt or any combination of these. When filling a clean fill bin, it must not contain any other sort of material or surcharges will apply.

  • How do I pay for the service?

We accept cash, debit and all major credit cards. If paying by credit card or debit, we will have it pre-authorized for $100 when you place your order and have the payment  processed only when the work is complete.

  • How much advance notice should I provide?

We can often provide same day or next day bin rental or junk removal.  Of course, the more notice that is given, the better especially around weekends and holidays.

Junk Removal

  • How does junk removal work?
Junk removal is the best option for waste management when you're short on time. Our service allows you to call or place your order online. When placing your order, we will ask you approximately how much garbage you have based on your estimated volume and what day and time you would like for us to arrive. We show up at the scheduled time, collect all the junk and finish by cleaning up the work area. The customer does not need to be present if the junk removal takes place outside, however if the junk removal takes place inside the dwelling then the customer would need to be present.
  • Are junk removal workers insured to remove objects from your property?
RedBins is fully insured and licensed to handle waste removal. Our staff are also covered under WSIB as well as private insurance. We arrive fully equipped with hand trucks, brooms and other tools to allow us to perform the work safely and efficiently.
  • Where does the junk that gets removed end up?
All the junk collected is sent to various transfer stations depending on where you are located. The junk is then sorted and separated to allow it to be recycled properly. Often times we will collect items that are salvagable such as furniture, sports equipment, tools, etc. These items are collected and distributed to organizations that will repurpose them. At RedBins, t's important to try and keep things out of the landfill whenever possible.
  • What if your junk removal trucks cannot fit on my driveway?
RedBins has several trucks of various sizes to meet specific requirements. Our smallest trucks are designed to fit in very tight spots such as laneways or narrow driveways and our largest trucks can hold several tonnes of junk if necessary. When we come across a space that's too small for even our smallest truck to fit, then we will set up at the nearest possible accessible location and carry the junk over using our various hand tools such as hand trucks or dollies.
  • What items do you take for junk removal?
Unlike typical garbage collection, RedBins take just about any type of junk with the exception of hazardous waste. If you have a large variety of junk to remove and are unsure about what type of junk it is or how much junk it is then sending a picture will certainly help us to figure that out for you. You can send a picture by text, email or by filling out the online questionnaire. Here are some of the items we commonly take: Appliances, Furniture, Yard Waste, Mattresses, Hot Tubs, Televisions, Garage Clutter, Refrigerators, E-Waste and Construction Waste.
  • What’s the difference between a bin rental and junk removal?
The main differences between a bin rental and junk removal come down to time and effort. To get rid of your junk, a bin rental is usually cheaper but you have to do all the heavy lifting. You also get to keep the bin for up to 7 days which is included in your rental. This is good when you need time to go through what needs to be thrown out or you have a project that requires several days to complete. A full service junk removal is your best option when you know exactly what needs to be thrown out and you need it out of there fast. Junk removal is also the best option when you don't have the space to leave a bin on site.
  • Does the company recycle or donate items rather than dumping them in a landfill?
RedBins makes every attempt to recycle, donate or repurpose what we collect. Going green requires a concerted effort from everyone within our company to make sure we are doing our part in acheiving eco-friendly practices. Part of this strategy is to try and keep junk out of landfills. Many landfills are operating at capacity and they are a temporary solution to a growing problem. As consumers, the process of creating junk will never go away but we can implement best practices to minimize the impact.
  • How do I book junk removal services?
RedBins makes it easy to book junk removal. Our online ordering page takes all the information needed to confirm your service with the date and time. After the order is complete, you will be emailed your order number along with all your order details. You can log in to your account at any time to check your order. You can also call us to place your order or whenever you require additional information that you cannot find on our website. We have heard it all and seen it all, so getting you the service you need won't be a problem.

Bin Rental

  • What type of bins do you carry?
RedBins offers 4 bin sizes available for rent. Our 4 yard is 6 feet wide x 12 feet long x 1.5 feet high. Our 14 yard is 8 feet wide x 5 feet high x 12 feet long. Our 20 yard is 8 feet wide x 5 feet high x 14 feet long and our 40 yard is 8 feet wide x 7 feet high x 20 feet long. We carry bins for garbage, renovation material, dirt, bricks, blocks and other types of materials. All bins come with easy-to-open barn doors and are low to the ground for easy access. They also have rollers on the bottom to prevent damage to driveways.
  • How long can I rent a bin for?
RedBins offers a very simple rental process. When you order a bin, you automatically get to keep it for 7 days and that is included in the rental price. Each additional day is $25 and each additional week is $125. Long terms rentals are also offered at a discount on an individual basis. When ordering a bin, you have the option of setting your pick-up date at that time if you wish to do so. You can also call during your rental period to change the pick-up date but we typically we require a minimum of 24 hours notice.
  • What is the smallest dumpster you can rent?
The smallest bin RedBins offers is its 4 yard bin which is 6 feet wide x 1.5 feet high and 12 feet long. This bin is perfect for small jobs and tight spaces. It is also the preferred bin size for residential landscape work. It is low to the ground which makes it easily accessible from any side and is perfect for jobs that require you to dump material into the bin using a wheelbarrow.
  • Do I need to put down a deposit to rent a bin?
When ordering a self-service disposal bin or a full service junk removal, RedBins will put a $100 authorization on your credit card to secure the order. This is done the day before the rental or service. If you do not have or wish to use a credit card, then a cash deposit can be arranged at the time of order. This is usually done by dropping the deposit off at our office or leaving the deposit with the driver at the time of service. All authorizations or deposits are noted on the delivery slip and a copy is handed to the customer at the time of service.
  • What if I fill up my bin and need another?
Sometimes you require several bins to complete a project. This is something RedBins is asked about routinely and is what we refer to as an exchange. After your first order, all your order details are maintained in our database. When ordering an exchange, you do not need to reference your order number specifically. We can access your information using your name, address or telephone number. When an exchange is requested, we usually send out an empty bin to the location and pick up the loaded bin at the same time. We will assume you want the empty bin placed in the same location unless otherwise requested.
